Boeing was possibly hit by a WannaCry ransomware attack affecting thousands of computer systems all around the world last year. According to an internal memo, Mike VanderWel, P.E., chief engineer of Boeing Commercial Airplane production engineering, worried the attack could spread to production systems and airline software; however, a later statement said that Boeing’s cybersecurity operations center detected a limited intrusion of malware affecting a small number of systems with no consequences.

Our project partner ELTA is exploring a case study on cybersecurity in the IP-intensive industry of aeronautics: even such an advanced sector may be exposed to cyberattacks, as showed by Boeing’s case.
